| In this dissertation the cognitive functioning, more specifically the tendency to overgeneralize, is studied in people suffering from borderline personality disorder as compared to patients suffering from a major depressive disorder, other psychopathology, and in normal controls in a quasi experimental design. Next, experimental studies are performed to investigate the causal relationship between (1) overgeneralization and affect intensity and (2) overgeneralization and affect regulation in a normal population with high and low affect-intensity. Finally the studies will be repeated in a population of patients with borderline personality disorder, major depressive disorder and other psychopathology. |
