The umbrella theme of the policy supporting research cluster 'Vital Rural Areas' includes the following activities:
- Co-ordinating research activities
- Preparing and supporting cluster board meetings
- Putting out research proposals within and outside WUR
- Assessing research proposals and quality control
- Gearing research activities and policy problems to one another with LNV officials
- Project administration, proceeding reports and financial reports
- Carrying out customer-contentment measurements
- Communication and Public Relations, including activities directed at improving the dispersion and use of knowledge
- Co-ordinating the Helpdesk
