Title Dust and pathogens in livestock production

Status Completed
Dissertation Yes
Research number OND1316700

The general objective of this project is to identify and quantify sources of dust in pig and poultry buildings and its relationship with pathogen concentrations and airborne transmission of pathogens. Dust and pathogen concentrations inside these animal buildings and emissions from these buildings will be measured. Dust will be characterized by the size of the particles and by its composition, e.g. concentrations of bacteria, fungi, viruses, organic and an-organic substances, endotoxines and beta-glucans. Measures to reduce dust and pathogen concentrations in animal houses and to reduce dust and pathogen emissions from animal houses are tested and evaluated
