Compilation of a soil and terrain (SOTER) database for the Democratic Republic Congo (scale 1:2 M), Rwanda and Burundi (scale 1:1 M) [October 2005 - July 2006].
[Main activities]:
1) Creation of a 3-D topographic framework at 90 m resolution based on data from the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM)
2) Combination of the topographic framework with soil parent material information from geological maps
3) Generalization of soil maps, selection of reference profiles, and description of SOTER units.
Project co-funded by FAO and implemented by ISRIC - World Soil Information and the University of Gent. Further assistance is provided by the Department BIOT of the Hogeschool Gent, the Royal Museum for Central Africa (Tervuren) and data holders in the Democratic Republic Congo, Burundi and Rwanda. |
