| The mission of this programme on history and theory of education, entitled 'Education in Culture', which started in 1992, is to study the initiation of children into culture as a reciprocal process between children and educators. The concept and process of cultural transmission is central to the research, which is both historical and theoretical. The programme aims to provide perspectives on current issues concerning gender and multiculturalism. The research results are communicated to scholars, educational professionals and practitioners, and to the general public. The programme is embedded in GRSSH (Dutch acronym: OGWG), the Groningen Research School for the Study of the Humanities.
