Abstract

The project entails a comparison of manifestations of cultural diversity by immigrants - notably the proliferation of ethnic shopping districts - and deals with the question of how these expressions of culture can be transformed into a vehicle for socio-economic development to the advantage of both immigrants and the neighborhood at large. The primary focus of this project is the role of immigrant entrepreneurs and workers in the emerging tourist industry as well as their interaction with other actors of the urban tourist industry.
