| The research programme focuses on social and psychological consequences of cultural diversity. It encompasses psychological, cultural, and anthropological studies of fundamental processes underlying multiculturalism, acculturation and identity formation, as well as applications of scientific knowledge derived from these studies to current issues in society. Starting point of the research programme is the recognition that the changing ethnic and cultural composition of societies profoundly and lastingly affects the organizations as well as the attitudes and behaviours of individuals in such societies. These effects are studied from both macro-perspectives (groups and organizations) and micro-perspectives (individuals), including minority groups as well as majority groups. Four main themes can be distinguished within the programme: Methodological aspects of cross-cultural comparisons; Acculturation and identity in culturally diverse societies; Emotions and affect in cross-cultural perspective; Social cohesion, cultural diversity and transnationalism. |
