| This research programme focuses on religious pluralism and the dynamic processes and tensions it causes in a multicultural society, in particular in the Netherlands. The Netherlands is a society which is increasingly characterized by multiculturalism and religious pluralism. Within the latter, Islam and Hinduism take a prominent position as new religions next to Christianity, Judaism, and Humanism. Both Muslims and Hindus in the Netherlands are religious minorities in a diaspora context and they are exposed to processes in which they themselves as minority groups, but also the country of immigration, the source countries of their religions, and trans-/multinational networks play a significant role. The research programme takes into account both phenomenological and ethical questions such as: Which changes can be observed in the migration/diaspora context in religious norms and values and in the role of religious authority? What are the causes and consequences of particular changes for these norms and values, and for religious identity? |
