Abstract

Core formation was the most dramatic differentation event in Earth's history. The conditions at which Earth's core formed are still hotly debated, as is its chemical composition. In the absence of samples from the core, experimental petrology is one of just a few research fields that can provide constraints on both formation conditions and composition.
