| This proposal seeks to extend and complement previous work by evaluating existing theories of social psychology in terms of Applicability, an overlooked standard for evaluating theory. In addition to the regulatory ideals of Truth, Abstraction, and Progress, a fourth ideal of Applicability can serve as Standard (TAPAS) to see whether a theory is TAPAS-proof. We will do so by evaluating theory in terms of four quality domains of life, including (a) quality of individual (e.g., health), (b) quality of relationships (e.g., absence of break-up), (c) quality of society (e.g., successful integration), and (d) quality of future (e.g., education, environment). |
