Title P3077 Institutionalisation of social learning in water management
Period 08 / 2007 - unknown
Status Completed
Research number OND1325480

Abstract (NL)

Water management is not a national matter anymore. Countries like Belgium and the Netherlands are strengthening cross-border relations in sustainable water management. Public and private actors have to develop methods for learning from each other. Social learning and interactive communication are methods for intensive cooperation. They will lead to a new distribution of responsibilities between the actors involved.
Aim:
to develop input about social learning processes into the actual DUWA program: cooperation between Belgian and Dutch water authorities,
to develop cases studies as an input tho the ?Dialoog over Water CoP,
to draw up a final report as a case study about rural development, shared with Dutch, Belgian and EU officials
Academic papers
There is still a knowledge gap in understanding the role of communication and social learning in sustainable water management into changes in people's behaviour.
The project consists of the following four phases:
Inception; a first inter-regional platform meeting will be held to discuss the objectives and results of the research.
Distribution of responsibilities on sustainable water systems
International comparative analysis: cross border case studies about the costs and benefits of interactive communication processes
Synthesis: final analysis of the results of Phase 2 and 3, discussion at the third inter-regional platform meeting, and final reporting.
The research sets up a series of interactions between the researchers and the partners in the DUWA project on sustainable water management for the Benelux middle area.
A better understanding of social learning processes in sustainable water management in international perspective.
