Abstract

Hypoxia-inducible factor 1 (HIF-1) plays a critical role in cellular responses to hypoxia. Moreover, HIF-1 is a downstream target of the mTOR signal transduction pathway. Mutation of the APC (colon) tumor suppressor gene combined with upregulation of mTOR activity was recently shown to induce chromosomal instability (CIN) in mice. This project aims to investigate the relationship between HIF-1, mTOR, APC, and CIN in human colon adenomas and carcinomas.
