| Identity politics in the political arena is an analysis of the interplay between Dutch policies and the postcolonial migrants lobbies emanating from both the colonial past and the various and changing positions and orientations of the diverse postcolonial groups since their arrival in the Netherlands. The comparative cases include the struggle for acts and institutions commemorative of the colonial past, attempts to influence Dutch national and international policies, and, in the case of the Dutch Antilleans, contemporary Dutch and Antillean policies regarding present and future constitutional ties with the Netherlands. At a narrative level, the project addresses the impact of the interplay of identity politics on identity construction, both among the postcolonial immigrants and regarding Dutch national identity. |
