| The Indisch history has its roots in the former Netherlands East Indies. It continued in the Netherlands and elsewhere where Indisch migrants settled. It is the history of people of long ago, there and here, but also of their offspring, especially in the Netherlands. Some of them were born in the East, a growing number in the Netherlands. Knowledge of this history is important for the perpetuation of Indisch culture in the Netherlands. It has left a versatile trail of documents, stories and images, but sometimes tracing this history can be difficult. To enable both beginning and advanced researchers to easily determine what information is to be found where, the Indisch Knooppunt is compiling an overview of archival sources in the Netherlands on the 19th and 20th century history of the Netherlands East Indies and the history of Indisch organizations in the Netherlands. This overview, a database with detailed descriptions of the sources, can be consulted online through the Indisch Knooppunt website. The website also offers an introduction into archival research and a helpdesk one can turn to for personal advice on how and where to look for specific information. The website is meant to be an easily accessible online and interactive research guide for those in search of Indisch heritage in the Netherlands. During the project people from Indisch organizations in the Netherlands are interviewed. Through these interviews archives are tracked, but more importantly, material for research into the Indisch organizational life in the Netherlands is collected. Abstracts of the interviews will be made available through the website, the digital recordings are kept at the KITLV and can be consulted there. |
