| The Dutch Probation Service uses RISc to assess the rates of recidivism risks with regards to suspects. This risk is reported to the judge. What does the judge do with this risk assessment? Does a higher recidivism risk lead to more severe punishment? This raises a second question: What are the determinants of sentencing in general? To answer this question, the influence of RISc-items (such as unemployment and alcohol consumption) on sentencing decisions will be studied. |
