Description: Organic dairy goat production is with 70 of the total 600 goat farms an important sector in the organic movement of The Netherlands. This sector needs to improve its technical results in order to become a sustainable sector with reasonable economic results. Questions of the sector are mostly related to nutrition, animal health and welfare.
Research objectives: T The long term objective of the project is to strengthen the sector as a whole with a special focus on cost price and milk quality. Specific objectives for 2008: Cost price reduction
- Improving technical results by optimising animal health through lam rearing and dairy goat nutrition using 100% organic feed
Product quality
- Optimising milk (omega's, CLA, protein and fat content) and cheese quality
Results and products: Specific for 2008: reports on coccidioses, mineral supply, article in magazine for professional goat farming, yearly Biogeit day for farmers and other professionals in the dairy goat industry. |
