| While the scientific interest in spatial aspects of crime is increasing quickly, the choice of the spatial unit of analyses has not been given the attention it deserves. Typically, pragmatic solutions are chosen without addressing issues like: What is the proper unit of analysis for this research question, an address, a street segment, a street, a neighbourhood or a district? What are the consequences of choosing a particular unit of analysis? In September 2006 NSCR organized an international workshop on this topic. Amongst the participants were Kate Bowers, Paul en Patricia Brangtingham, Henk Elffers, Liz Groff, Shane Johnson, Michael Maltz, George Rengert, Dietrich Oberwittler, Michael Townsley, George Tita, P-O Wikström, and Johan van Wilsem. Weisburd, Bernasco and Bruinsma are editing a volume on the subject (to appear in 2008 at Springer) with contributions from these researchers. |
