Abstract

Supplementation of infant formula with a combination of pre- and probiotics may protect infants against infectious complications such as diarrhoea and respiratory infections. We speculate that the combination of pre- and probiotics changes the infants intestinal microflora and that this leads to a better protection against infections than only one of these substances. Moreover, infants that recieve a supplementation of the combination of probiotics and/or prebiotics are investigated in comparison to infants that are mothersmilk fed with regards to fecal microflora as well as health parameters.
