Abstract

The effects of a new experimental multi modality treatment will be assessed in a sample of patients in their rehabilitation phase after stroke with very limited recovery of arm function. These patients are prone to the development of secondary complications such as hemiplegic shoulder pain, contracture formation and spasticity. The complications can cause difficulties in the performance activities of daily life. A single-blind randomized trial is performed to be able to assess whether an early initiated combined intervention for the arm (stretching agonist arm muscles by a positioning procedure and simultaneous electrical stimulation of their antagonists) can prevent the development of these secondary complications.
