| The purpose of this research is to analyse the way in which human rights law can complement international humanitarian law and international criminal law in order increase protection for those who suffer violence at the hands of armed groups in internal conflict. In particular, it seeks to (i) establish whether armed groups can or should be directly accountable under human rights law and (ii) clarify what States need to do to fulfil their positive obligations States under human rights law to protect individuals from violence by armed groups. |
