Abstract

In this research project we are interested in the growth and development of preterm infants. The protocol is divided in three parts. 1.Growth of preterm infants 2.Development of preterm infants 3.The Van Wiechen Developmental instrument. 1. Main objectives on the study of growth of LRPIs and HRPIs To determine growth and growth velocity of LRPIs from birth till 5 years of age. To determine timing, duration and amount of catch-up growth for LRPIs and HRPIs To make guidelines (using Z scores) for postnatal growth for LRPIs and HRPIs in the Netherlands. 2. Main Objectives of thestudy on development in LRPI To determine the prevalence of abnormal neurodevelopmental and motor outcome in LRPIs at the age of 5 years and 6.9 years To determine perinatal and early postnatal risk factors that influence neurodevelopmental and motor outcome in LRPIs. 3. Main objectives of thestudy on the Van Wiechen developmental instrument To determine the P90 age for developmental items of the Van Wiechen test for HRPIs and LRPIs. To examine if (part of) the Van Wiechen instrument is correlated with developmental outcome in LRPIs, and can be used as early indicator for neurological and developmental problems later on.
