| Cervical cancer is the second most frequent cancer in women worldwide with a very high prevalence in the developing world. As part of our research we develop high-resolution protein and peptide profiling techniques to discover novel markers through comparative analysis of serum and tissue samples from cancer patients and controls. This work is based on a collaboration with Prof. Ate van der Zee (University Medical Center Groningen; UMCG). The biomarker line of research has recently been extended to include also the spatial analysis of proteins in biopsies from cervical cancer patients by use of laser capture microdissection in collaboration with Dr. Theo Luider (Erasmus Medical Center Rotterdam). This project serves also as a pilot to test newly developed algorithms for data processing and statistical analysis. |
