Abstract

Hyperammonemia is the main cause of hepatic encephalopathy in patients with liver dysfunction. It recently has been shown that renal ammonia handling has a pivotal role in ammonia homeostasis. This project aims to execute a translational study treating hyperammonemia by stimulating ammonia transporters in the medullary thick ascending limb of the nephron.
