Description:
According to a motion issued in the Dutch parliament, research under practical conditions should be performed with the aim to compare alternative types of floors for veal calves. The government should make a final decisison with regard to the legally required type of floor for veal calves based on the results of this latter study.
Research objectives:
To perform research, under practical conditions, in order to identify an alternative type of floor for veal calves, that is better in terms of the welfare of the animals than the existing wooden slatted floor.
Results and products:
A new type of floor that is better for veal calf welfare than the existing wooden slatted floor.
