Description: Previous studies showed that organic milk and conventional milk have a different fatty acid composition with more potentially beneficial fatty acids in organic milk. However, through changes in the conventional production system compositional differences can easily be minimised. On the other hand, a strong motivation to consume organic products would be the beneficial effect on health. In a recent paper it was described that children who consumed organic milk had a 33% reduced risk in developing eczema. This first indication is a start, but a confirmation of these results is needed before firm conclusions can be drawn. In several other studies (Parsifal and PIAMA) information on both organic food intake and health complaints were collected. In one of the existing data sets data will be analysed to investigate whether an association between organic dairy intake and eczema can be confirmed.
Research objectives: Confirm and further substantiate the health effects of organic dairy products
