| It is generally argued that genomics (through a gene revolution) will significantly contribute to accomplishing the Millennium Development Goals (reducing hunger and poverty by half). Given the poorest of the poor (particularly in Sub Saharan Africa) were largely missed by the Green Revolution and many Sub Saharan countries lack human and laboratory resources to engage in genomics, we propose to explore the feasibility of an alternative participatory network approach to strengthening the access of local researchers and farmers to functional genomics information as an aspect of an interdisciplinary genomics-social science approach to the improvement of rice and yam in West Africa. |
