Description: How can serious games (with a geo-spatial aspect) contribute to creating more awereness on a certain subject or problem, amongst stakeholders from different origin. Initially, the activities carried out focused primarily on promoting and further developing existing games (Splash, NitroGenius). The goal has since been modified to take into account the fact that there now seems to be a need for a gaming framework which will enable us to realise concrete products more quickly. In a brainstorming session held at the end of August, several criteria were formulated leading to a project plan with a clear and transparent approach. Several keywords in this regard are:
- Scientific approach - New success story - Concrete applications, looking for PMCs
Research objectives: Within this project, activities are carried out which contribute to games with a geo-related component.
Results and products: It has turned out to be very difficult to get this project off to a good start. In all cases, it is necessary to formulate concrete areas of application. A serious game must have a concrete learning goal. After investigating the matter further, particularly via discussions with possible partners within WUR, we concluded that, if we wish to produce games which comply with the present-day standard, we will in any case need to work together with external partners whose core business consists of gaming. WUR will then continue to play a role in terms of content as well as formulating the goals. |
