Description:
The following questions need to be answered to allow a protocol to be developed:

- What data from LMM (the national measuring network for the effects of fertiliser policy) are available for the developers of the STONE nutrient emission model (Alterra, PBL), and how can these data be used to calibrate the model?
- What options are available for developing a calibration and validation procedure?
- Which of these options would be most suitable for the protocol?

Research objectives:
Several approaches could be used to calibrate and validate the STONE instruments with data from the LMM. The choice of a particular approach influences the results and scenario analyses that STONE is used for. The project aims to develop a soundly based protocol for the calibration and validation of STONE.

Doel
Voor de calibratie en validatie van STONE op data van het Landelijk Meetnet effecten Mestbeleid kunnen verschillende benaderingen gebruikt worden. Deze keuzen hebben invloed op de uitkomsten van scenarioanalyses die met STONE worden uitgevoerd. Doel van dit project is een goed onderbouwd protocol voor calibratie en validatie van STONE te ontwikkelen

Werkwijze
De uitvoering van het project is sterk afhankelijk van de beschikbaarheid van data. Samen met bronhouders zal besproken worden welke data beschikbaar zijn voor de ontwikkelaars van STONE (Alterra, MNP) en wat de bruikbaarheid is van de data voor het toetsen van STONE. Op basis van deze kennis zullen een aantal opties worden omschreven om STONE te kalibreren en te valideren. De opties zullen worden uitgevoerd en resultaten zullen worden vergeleken. De resultaten zullen met een brede groep van betrokkenen worden bediscussieerd en op basis van deze reacties zullen geautomatiseerde protocollen voor zowel de calibratie en de validatie van STONE worden ontwikkeld.
