Abstract

In the Netherlands about 500 green care farms provide care to a wide variety of target groups (e.g. people with psychiatric problems, demented elderly, mentally disabled people) It is often claimed that farms offer a range of meaningful values to clients and that such values contribute to their quality of life. Examples of farm values are routine, interaction with animals and people and diversity of activities. However, scientific evidence for the beneficial effect of care farms is scarce. Therefore the objective of this study is to assess the effect of green care farms and specific farm values on quality of life of clients. Target groups are demented elderly and people with burnout.
