Samenvatting (EN)

The main objective is to improve the comparatively less healthy fatty acid profile of milk on silage based diets up to the level of grazing cows on sustain basis. Work will be done to locate critical points of maximum unsaturated fatty acid losses from the moment of plant cutting to animal feeding. Furthermore, techniques will be established for minimizing these losses of unsaturated fatty acids. An important target will be to minimize oxidative losses during field wilting and minimize lipid hydrolysis/lipolysis in the silo. Reducing the high extent of biohydrogenation of silage unsaturated fatty acids in the rumen will be the second goal of the project.
