Abstract

We aim to perform simulations of turbulent flows in the atmosphere. Simulations of a stably stratified atmosphere will be made with a Direct Numerical Simulation code. We are particularly interested in assessing the effect of the Reynolds number on intermittent turbulence. Boundary layer clouds like stratocumulus and shallow cumulus will be studied with a Large-Eddy Simulation model. Sensitivity tests need to be performed to better understand the effect of the vertical stratification on cloud cover and cloud depth. The LES code will be improved to make it suited for the simulation of deep convection.
