| COPD is the only major global disease with increasing mortality. The pathogenesis of extrapulmonary COPD manifestations (crucial determinants of its severity) is poorly defined and there are no evidence-based strategies for their diagnosis and treatment. The main goal of this research project is to define new avenues for the development of new diagnostics and therapeutics for COPD. This will be realized by combining novel insights in the interaction between genetic and environmental factors and by modulating these factors with the help of new therapeutic, nutriceutic and lifestyle strategies. |
