| Aim: to evaluate the (cost-) effectiveness of OT in improving daily functioning of PD patients and reducing caregivers' burden. The study is a multicentre, single (assessor) blinded and randomized controlled clinical trial. Home dwelling patients with PD who need assistance in daily activities, as well as their primary caregivers, will be assigned to the experimental group or the control group (2:1). Patients and their caregivers in the experimental group will receive 10 weeks of OT according to a recently developed evidence-based guideline. Patients and caregivers in the control group will receive delayed OT following their last assessment. The primary analysis will be the changes between baseline and 3 months after start of the intervention. A pilot RCT (N=45) will evaluate the procedures and feasibility of the study, as well as factors for a successful treatment. A large scale RCT will follow to determine (cost-) effectiveness. |
