Description: The goal of the project is generating knowledge and tools that contribute to the professionalization and growth of the new sector agriculture and care and the effective use of farms for clients with different types of disability.
The project focusses on two aspects:
1. Idenfiication of factors at micro- meso and macro level that influence successful cooperation between the agricultural and care sector. Concepts of transition sciences, entrepreneurship, collective action and organizational sciences will be integrated. 2. Determination of the effects of care farms on the development of clients. Scientific papers will be published.
We collaborate with the University of Amsterdam, Erasmus University, University of Utrecht and Knowledge Centre for Rehabilitation.
Research objectives: The projects focus on:
1. the effects of care farms and the underlying mechanisms. There is a great deal of practical experience in this growing field, but scientific evidence is lacking. The projects will generate knowledge concerning the role of agriculture on the health of vulnerable groups in society and urban population. The role of specific elements such as animals, the farmer and plants will be investigated in detail. 2. Analysis of initiatives in care farming and understanding why initiatives for collaboration between the agricultural and care sector are successful or not.
Our aim is also to develop and extend a strong scientific and practical network at national and international level.
Researchers of Wageningen UR collaborate intensively with leading scientists of the medical and health sector such as Radboud University Nijmegen, AMC, VU, UVA, Erasmus University, Trimbos Institute and various European universities and research institutes. We also develop strong links with regional associations of care farmers and care institutions.
We aim to integrate alfa, beta and gamma disciplines in the various projects.
There is a growing market for this topic: Transforum, Taskforce ML, ministry of VWS, municipalities, EU, health insurance companies, farmers organisations are co-sponsors of projects in this field.
