Samenvatting (EN)

Different research traditions have modeled and explained human voluntary action with a fo-cus on either perceptual action effects (ideomotor approach) or the affective consequences (motivational approach), but how these relate to each other remains unclear. We claim that representations of perceptual and affective action effects serve different, dissociable purposes in human decision-making. By bringing together methods from different research traditions and (sub)disciplines we will dissociate these two functions with respect to their functional and behavioral effects, their neuroanatomy and neuromodulation, and study their interaction, interdependence, and neural connectivity in theoretically meaningful and ecologically valid decision-making scenarios. In particular, we will relate individual differences in behavior, personality, and genetics (with implications for neuromodulation) to individual differences in brain-activation profiles.
