| The research intends to investigate the legal principles governing marine areas beyond national jurisdiction (the high seas and the Area). Two legal regimes are relevant to those areas (freedom of the high seas and common heritage of mankind). The research intends to establish the significance of the principles governing each of those regimes, focusing among others on the spatial and substantive delineation of both regimes and on how their governing principles influence the elaboration of the substantive and institutional framework for the management of marine areas beyond national jurisdiction. |
