| The project will provide proof of principle for a generic scheme where the power of zinc finger (ZF) containing artificial transcription factors is used as a two-edged sword. Thus, firstly, to investigate whether a novel epigenetic mutant phenotype can be brought into existence ( genome interrogation ) and, secondly, as a means to identify with certainty the causal set of genes responsible for the phenotype of interest. Once such a set is known, the complex genetic trait can in principle be brought under experimental control, but probably more importantly, serve as a reference point for breeding activities. Since a ZF-induced homologous recombination mutant is already available from previous work, the research activities planned only deal with the second part of the generic scheme. |
