Fisheries policy aims at inducing ecological, economical and social sustainability. Dutch fisheries policy is developed within the wider context of the EU CFP, with quite an emphasis on management systems based on TAC and quota embedded in a series of technical measures. In order to facilitate a process of transition towards a more sustainable use of the marine living resources on the one hand more insight is needed of such processes as the influence of climate change on fish populations, the effect of spatial restructuring such as windmill parks and protected areas. On the other hand it calls for the development of more sustainable fisheries techniques and practices.
In this theme we look at possibilities for gear innovations leading to less impact on the environment. Furthermore, there are activities that aim to evaluate fisheries management and possible management alternatives. Several activities are supported by the European Committee, which improves the effect of the results of all projects on international management. It is a good way to influence international management and to present the Dutch perspective in a broader European framework. |
