Description: Many resources in potato production in Indonesia (land, water, energy, minerals, biocides) are used sub-optimally due to lack of Decision Support Systems (DSS). Farmers currently are guided by representatives of the chemical industry or apply on the save side ; both with high risk of over-application and ill use of resources. The BOCI project is aimed at the identification of key indicators of current cultural practices and the determination of how DSS (derived from potato production systems in the Netherlands) could contribute to sustainability in the Indonesia.
Research objectives: The objective of the activities during the first months of 2010 is to describe a project for the INDF funds describing how and which DSS contributes to improved use of scarce resources and possibly minimizing the impact of potato production on the environment. We envisage involvement of all potato stakeholders such as growers, suppliers, trade, R&D and policy makers.
Results and products: 1. mission of three researchers for fact finding 2. report on usefulness, need and possibilities of the deployment of decision support systems in potato production 3. project proposal for submission to INDF |
