Description: Some (organic) dairy farmers think that the health of dairy cattle is positively affected by cattle grazing highly diverse pastures (grasses, herbs), established more than 30 years ago. From their experience cattle grazing these pastures have almost no health problems. In this limited pilot research the relation between pasture composition, phyto-therapeutical potential (anti-oxidants and phenols) of encountered grass/herb species and health of dairy cattle will be investigated at selected dairy farms. The research will be linked to other ongoing research activities in the field of animal health, phytotherapy and sward composition.
Research objectives: To gain knowledge about the relation between pasture diversity and the health of dairy cattle
