Description: In the Netherlands phosphate use standards are implemented by the Manure Act. These standards limits the use of phosphate from fertilisers and manure on grassland and arable land. The standards are differentiated according the phosphate status of the soil. The higher the phosphate status, the lower the phosphate use standard becomes. However, this differentiation does not take into account the buffering power of soils for phosphate. Therefore it is not known how robust and tenable phosphate use standards are for agriculturale purposus and effective for meeting environmental standards.
Research objectives:
. Design of a system for phosphate use standards based on the buffering capacity of soils and a system to test this design . Calibration and validation to test the system . Development of the protocol for phosphate use standards based on the buffering capacity of soils.
Results and products: A protocol for differentiation of phosphate use standard which takes into account the buffing power for phosphate of the soils in the Netherlands. |
