Description: An increasing proportion of the population lives in urban areas, this number is expected to increase sharply in the coming years. Of great importance to the cities is to keep focussed on the quality of urban living where one of the prerequisites is that the quality of the city is determined by the quality of public space. Therefore the importance of a healthy and sustainable living environment in urban areas is high on the political agenda and the aim of this research is to keep it there.
Research objectives: During the past years some cities are shrinking. In 2009 a study started about the relationship between shrinking cities and the public space where the key question is whether a shrinking city provides opportunities for a new urban concept to improve the quality of life of cities.
Within this theme there is also attention to trends around Green and the City. The run-up to municipal elections in March 2010 provides an opportunity to examine how cities deal with the public space, what are the (new) topics and where lies the focus in the college programs in relation to public space.
Results and products: The intended results are in addition to acquiring and dissimineren of knowledge, remaining to focus on the importance of the quality of green space in cities for the quality of the environment and thus the viability of the city. Dissemination of the results takes place by means of reports, brochures, articles and excursions |
