| The atrial fibrillation group is an initiative evolving from the clinical electrophysiology group of the Departments of Cardiology and Cardio-Thoracic. Current research activities focus on new drug therapy, long term assessment of the results of ablation with cryotherapy, while new research lines are being implemented using various robotic systems. The study of electropathological alterations of the atria for guiding therapeutic interventions to prevent post-operative atrial fibrillation will be done in cooperation with Professor Alessie (Maastricht). Further interaction with the surgical department in this area is being prepared. Quality of life studies are being performed in cooperation with Professor Susanne Pedersen, as well as with other universities. Further developments: more emphasis on imaging (MRI, substrate recognition), coordinated efforts to decrease procedure related complications and better insight into long term outcome. |
