| Metawad-1 is a project that studies the effects of changes in Wadden Sea habitats on behaviour, physiology, ecology and population dynamics of migrant waterbirds. This involves comparisons, such as between sandy and silty environments, between oyster beds and mussel beds, between seagrass meadows and saltmarsh, and between managed and unmanaged environments. Restoration plans are being supported by natural scientific knowledge gained by intensive studies on differential habitat by migrants, linked to survival and recruitment rates. Metawad-1 acknowledges meta-ecosystem connections between Wadden Sea and other areas, such as arctic breeding grounds, and sub-tropical wintering sites. |
