Abstract

Study on the interaction between the Latin epic tradition and Senecan tragedy. Seneca's tragedies texts that are of central importance to the development of Latin epic, driving the tensions and paradoxes within Vergil's and Ovid's epics to their breaking point. Later generations of epic poets are forced to come to terms with Seneca's radical tragic response to the epic genre.
