Abstract

The ecosystem engineering function of trees is poorly understood. A chemical analysis of the biomass, litter and soil associated with different tree species will (1) quantify their role in nutrient budgets of different forests and (2)underpin the relevance of intimate tree-soil interactions for improving soil conditions and biodiversity.
