| This PhD project will examine the mechanisms of complement-mediated injury to renal tubular cells induced by properdin binding. The ESR will first analyse the reasons why properdin binds exclusively to the apical surface of renal tubular cells and examine the mechanisms that link binding to complement activation. This will provide the foundation for studies to explore possible ways to inhibit the resulting damage. The results should provide an insight into mechanisms of progressive renal injury after damage to glomerular capillaries. |
