Searching NARCIS

Search terms in search box

Please enter one or more terms in the search box. All terms occur in the document.
For example: economic crisis developing countries.
Use English and Dutch terms
For example: Enter human rights, but also mensenrechten. Hence: enter human rights or mensenrechten.
Quotation marks can be used to find word combinations.
For example: enter “cancer therapy”. and you will find records where the words ‘cancer’ en ‘therapy' are adjacent.
You can search on terms that are specified only partially by using an asterisk: *
For example: econom* also provides records about economical, economics, economic, economy et cetera
Searching by names: search for surnames or search for surnames and initials.
For example: jansen / jjg jansen / j.j.g. jansen / jansen jjg / jansen j.j.g.
Do not use first names of authors or of researchers. Often they are not used in NARCIS.
Searching by surnames and name of the institute will often not give the right result. Please broaden your search action.
For example: ‘icke university leiden’ gives no result; ‘icke leiden’ gives results; ‘icke’ gives even more results.

Boolean searching in search box

Search terms can be combined using ‘and’,‘or’ en ‘not’.

‘and’: both terms should occur, but the order is not important.
‘or’: one of either the terms or both terms should occur (e.g. with synonyms or words in different languages), the order is not important.
‘not’: the first term should occur and the second not.

For example:
- youth and child: Records contain both 'youth' and 'child'.
- youth or child: Records contain either 'youth' or 'child' or both.
- (youth or child) and language: Records contain either 'youth' or 'child' or both, and also 'language'.
- youth not language: Records contain 'youth' and not 'language'
- +youth -criminal: Records contain 'youth' and do not contain 'criminal'

Faceted search

After searching, you can refine your search by one of the facets (aspects) in the left colomn. The facets differ by information type you've been looking for.
For example:
After you've been searching in the SUBSET publications you can refine the search results by the institution where one can find the publication.

Via the homepage it is possible to choose dicetly one of the subsets of NARCIS. Please click on Publications or Research et cetera.

SUBSET Publications

Provides access to ALL (Open Access) publications (also e-theses) and other research results from all Dutch universities, KNAW, NWO and a number of scholarly institutes.

You can search by terms of the title of a publication, keywords, abstract, and author's name.

SUBSET Open Access Publications

Provides access to Open Access publications (also e-theses) and other research results from all Dutch universities, KNAW, NWO and a number of scholarly institutes.

You can search by terms of the title of a publication, keywords, abstract, and author's name.

SUBSET Research

Provides access to information about current research and completed research projects in The Netherlands.

You can search by terms of the title of a research project or programme, and of the abstract.

SUBSET Organisations

Provides access to information about research institutes in The Netherlands.

You can search by terms of the institute's name, the mission, and the research projects of the institute.

SUBSET Persons

Provides access to information about scholars in the Netherlands.

You can search by terms of expertise, research projects, researchers' name.

SUBSET Datasets

Provides access to information about datasets in the field of social sciences and humanities in The Netherlands (from the institute DANS).

You can search by terms the title, keywords and abstract, researchers' name.
